Angles run clockwise from the recorded north: 0° / 360° is north and 90° is east. Each sector includes its starting boundary and excludes its ending boundary; exactly 22.5° is northeast. The eight-sector lookup is this tool’s stated convention.
Enter a stated spread from ±0° to ±22.5°. Zero assumes no spread; it does not establish instrument accuracy. Both range endpoints count when identifying possible sectors. Repeat unstable readings and keep their reference settings.

How this Kua number calculator works
Start with the Li Chun-adjusted year, add its last two digits, and reduce that sum to one digit. Use the formula below, reduce again, map 0 to 9, and map a final 5 to 2 for the male branch or 8 for the female branch. The formula constants apply to the birth years accepted by this tool.

Kua number FAQ
What is a kua number?
A personal kua number is calculated from a resolved birth year and a traditional male or female formula. BaziPal maps an intermediate 5 to 2 or 8, then looks up the East or West group and named directions. It is a traditional classification, not a complete assessment of a home.
Why does my January or February birthday change the result?
BaziPal uses Li Chun (Start of Spring) as its year boundary, so a birth before that instant uses the previous year. Other schools may use Chinese New Year. Compare the stated boundary before deciding a different result is an error; births on Li Chun day need particular care.
What do I do with my lucky directions?
First compare a measured bearing with the table and record whether it uses magnetic or true north. At a desk, measure the direction you face; for the bed convention here, measure toward its head. If you try a change, keep comfort, access and safety in view. The traditional label does not establish effects on work, health or sleep.
What if the calculation gives Kua 5?
BaziPal records the intermediate result, then maps 5 to 2 for the male formula or 8 for the female formula. Both belong to the West group. Compare the final mapping as well as the birth-year boundary when another calculator differs.
What happens on Li Chun day when I do not know the birth time?
This date-only tool uses noon in a UTC+8 calendar reference. On Li Chun’s date it flags uncertainty and shows calculations for the previous and current year. It does not determine your exact birth instant or local timezone.
